As a professional pilot, your options are pretty clear: Do I want to go with DJI, Yuneec, or one of the other top brands?

But what if you’re a recreational photographer or videographer? You don’t need all of those bells and whistles, yet you still want to get quality shots.

In this article, I’m going to break down four drones that are great for recreational drone photographers and videographers.

Let’s do it:

1. Syma X8G

The Syma X8G is my favorite drone for recreational aerial photographers.

It has a frame that’s similar to a DJI Phantom, it comes with an 8MP camera that shoots video in 720p, and it comes with four propeller guards standard.

And it costs less than $150. It’s tough to find a better RC quadcopter in that price range.

2. Parrot Bebop

Next up is the original Parrot Bebop.

While it has been out for some time now, it’s still an excellent quadcopter. For around $200, you get a whopping 14 megapixel camera that supports full 1080p video capture.

It’s camera comes with a wide 180-degree field of view, and it’s compact to travel with. You can also use Parrot’s app to control the drone and adjust settings from your mobile device.

The Parrot Bebop comes with a nice set of features for recreational pilots to take advantage of, while not breaking the bank in the process.

3. Cheerson CX-20 Professional

If you have a camera that you would like to mount, the CX-20 Professional is a great drone for you.

It supports GoPro cameras, and it comes with a flight time of 15 minutes. Its vision positioning system also allows for stable flight indoors.

The CX-20 is a solid quadcopter to get your own camera up in the air, allowing you to get excellent quality shots on a budget.

4. DJI Phantom 3 Standard

The DJI Phantom 3 Standard is the most expensive drone in this list, but it’s also the most feature-rich.

Here are a few highlights:
25 minute flight time
DJI’s autonomous flight modes
Live FPV stream to your mobile device
2.7k video capture
12 megapixel still photos

If you’re willing to shell out around $500, you won’t find a better price to features ratio in that price range. And as a recreational photographer/videographer, this quadcopter will last you a long time.
